5 Tips for an Epic Engagement Shoot

If there ever was an event to set the tone for your upcoming wedding, it’s the engagement shoot.

These photos will likely be featured on your save-the-dates, as well as on your wedding website.

You may even choose to use these photos to announce your engagement to the world via social media.

To state that these are merely photos of the two of you is an understatement. Engagement photos are your time to shine as a couple! In order to make the most of the experience and achieve an epic engagement shoot, here are five tips worth keeping in mind:

LOCATION

Consider your location and decide on a spot that offers an amazing backdrop or tells the story of your love. For example, did you meet at that cute coffee shop downtown? Consider doing some engagement photos there.

PROPS

Treat this photo shoot like it’s going on the cover of a magazine. Add important props that tell your story. Also, don’t forget to get your engagement ring cleaned so it shines as the star attraction.

LIGHTING

Golden hour is my favorite time of day because the sun just does wondrous things in a photo. Avoid doing the shoot at night or during the day in direct sunlight, as both don’t lend to great photography.

PROFESSIONAL HAIR and MAKEUP

If you’re spending a lot on engagement photos, you also need to invest in your appearance. Consider getting your hair, makeup, and nails professionally done. For guys, make sure your facial hair is neat and trimmed.

LEAVE THE CRITICS AT HOME

This isn’t an entourage worthy occasion. While I’m sure your parents, siblings, and friends would love to tag along, just make this photo shoot about the two of you.
